A code is a clue, not a diagnosis.

Scanning tells us where to look. Testing tells us why.

A diagnostic trouble code names a system or condition the vehicle's computer noticed. It doesn't prove which part failed. One code can have several causes, so replacing the part a scanner points to is a guess. We use the code to aim our testing, then confirm the cause before recommending a repair.

In California, a vehicle with the check engine light on won't pass a smog check, one more reason to find the real cause.

How we find the cause

  1. Listen

Tell us what you noticed, when it happens, and what changed. We take the time to understand it.

  2. Scan

We retrieve trouble codes and the data the vehicle recorded.

  3. Analyze

We compare codes, symptoms, and data instead of treating a code as a parts list.

  4. Test

Targeted checks on the system the evidence points to.

  5. Verify

We confirm the cause before recommending a repair.

  6. Explain

Your digital vehicle inspection includes photos and videos, so you can see what we see. We tell you what's urgent, what's recommended, and what can wait.

  7. You decide

You approve all work before it begins. No high-pressure sales. You make the decisions for your vehicle.

The people behind the diagnosis

Super Service traces back to 1978, when Ralph "Buddy" Dubois opened Placentia Super Service. Andrew Bray and Bob Cornwall took the helm in 2016 and built it into four shops, including Super Service of Corona Hills. Along the way, Super Service was named National Multi-Shop of the Year by the nation's leading automotive training group.

Andrew is an ASE Master Technician with ASE World Class status who loves coaching young technicians, and Bob created the "Raving Fan Checklist" so guests leave glad they came. In Corona Hills, that shows up as ASE-certified technicians, straight answers, and no pressure.

A newly licensed teen or a retired driver should feel equally sure they'll be treated fairly.

Check engine light questions

Why is my check engine light on?

It can come on for many reasons, from a loose gas cap or a failing sensor to an ignition, fuel, electrical, or engine-performance problem. The light tells you the vehicle detected a fault. Testing is what identifies the cause.

What does a steady check engine light mean?

A steady light usually means the vehicle has stored a fault that should be checked soon. If the vehicle otherwise drives normally, schedule diagnostic testing rather than ignoring the light or replacing a part based only on a code.

What does a flashing check engine light mean?

A flashing light often signals an active misfire, which can overheat and damage the catalytic converter. Reduce speed, avoid hard acceleration, and call us. If the vehicle is running badly, stop when it is safe to do so.

Can I keep driving with the check engine light on?

It depends on whether the light is steady or flashing and how the vehicle is behaving. A steady light with normal driving usually leaves time to schedule a visit. A flashing light, a major loss of power, overheating, a strong fuel smell, or severe shaking needs attention right away.

Does a trouble code tell you which part to replace?

No. A diagnostic trouble code names a system or condition the vehicle's computer noticed. It is a clue that guides testing, and the same code can have more than one cause. That is why we test before recommending a repair.

How do you diagnose a check engine light?

We listen to what you noticed, scan for codes and data, analyze them, run targeted tests, and confirm the cause. Then we explain what we found, with photos and videos from your digital inspection, before you approve any repair.

Will a check engine light affect a California smog check?

Yes. In California, a vehicle with the check engine light on will not pass a smog check. Finding and fixing the cause comes first.

What vehicles do you work on?

Most makes and models: European, domestic, Japanese, Asian, and other imports, including hybrid, electric, and diesel vehicles. Call if you want to confirm a specific vehicle.

Do you diagnose fleet vehicles?

Yes. Fleet vehicles one ton and under are welcome for diagnostics, maintenance, and repair.

When can I bring my vehicle in?

Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Saturdays are available by appointment only, and we are closed Sundays. You can request an appointment online any time, day or night.

Is this the shop that used to be Car Clinic?

Yes. The Car Clinic location on Sampson Avenue is now Super Service of Corona Hills.
